Ladies' Brunch with Shop Ruche

Photographer and stylist Amanda Marie put together an adorable shoot for Shop Ruche. The concept was a sweet and playful ladies' brunch. Kinda think she nailed it, with killer style as per usual. I don't know about you but um any of these outfits will work for my next brunch date...

Ok she wins for matching her hair with her dress.

Our buttercream cake is topped with a custom sugar flower.

Ombre is a cake's best friend.

Oh, and now her donuts match her sweater. She is on it!

I think this is my favorite look. The one on the left. Those textures and colors are just ethereal fashion heaven. Tulle and Lace? check. check.

Too. Cute. This could be you and your BFF. Just call us and we will make it happen.

Emily + Eric | Real Wedding

Emily and Eric are two of the sweetest people I have had the pleasure of working with. They are just so lovely, and naturally, so was their wedding at Hickory Street Annex in January. I love the way Emily's wedding mixes bright colors (pinks, gold and mint) but still keeps a very natural, crisp winter vibe. For their sweets table we designed a collection of three cakes - a more traditional white stucco-style buttercream cake, a pink ombre cake and for the groom something (a bit) more manly and restrained with a gold fondant base and smooth buttercream top. Eric was a great sport and we promised not to use any pink on his cake! :) The macarons, on the other hand, are all pink and gold. This couple was not afraid to have some fun with their dessert bar and chose it as a place to showcase a more playful vibe. How cute is the backdrop the bride made herself?! We were pumped to collaborate with some of our favorite vendors on this beautiful wedding for a truly special couple.

Obsessed with this gorgeous invitation suite our pal Blue Eye Brown Eye designed and calligraphed! SO dreamy!

Stunning! Emily is so beautiful, and the detail on her BHLDN dress is a show stopper.

We also made some adorable mini pink and gold donuts that the bride packaged as favors for guests.

This wedding was featured on Green Wedding Shoes earlier this year. Read and see more here.

Feliz Cinco de Mayo!

One of my favorite things about Texas living is the intermingling of Mexican culture, from food to fashion and design, landscape, architecture -- it can easily seem everywhere if you stop and look around. And the further south you go, the more ubiquitous it becomes. I love visiting my parents in San Antonio and touring the Mexican markets and Fiesta stores, and um maybe indulging in a patio margarita or two. Color is alive there making it hard not to feel celebratory even if there's nothing but the ordinary to enjoy.  It is always an incredibly fun task to translate the spirit of the Fiesta into baked goods, and I'm happy to share some of the Mexico-inspired projects I've worked on in the past year or two. Enjoy celebrating this beautiful culture today!

Just this weekend we had the honor of working with Stephanie and Bryan who created the most colorful and funky DIY Mexican-themed wedding at their family's new event venue in Oak Cliff. Stephanie ordered this totes amazing Papel Picado cake topper from Etsy and we used a buttercream ruffle technique to mimic paper piñata fringe. The top two tiers are a white cake with cheesecake mousse, fresh strawberries and graham cracker buttercream, and the bottom tier holds a banana cake with peanut butter cream cheese frosting. AYE!

Speaking of pinatas...these little burro sugar cookies are edible pinatas themselves! Break open the cookies and tiny candies spill out.  Claudio and Cara ordered a batch of these for all the kiddos at their wedding to enjoy. Top photo by Letter A Photography.

Alicia always puts on out of this world parties for her little ones and the year Dotty turned three she hosted a fab fiesta with mariachis, a piñata cake full of assorted candies, a taco stand and all sorts of yummy traditional and colorful treats.  All photos by Ben Q Photography.

Cake Decorating Workshops with Fullosophie

This past weekend I partnered with Fullosophie to host two beginner's cake decorating workshops in my studio at The Bell Jar. They were SO MUCH FUN!!! I was a little nervous at first - I'm more of a behind-the-scenes type and it has been a few years since I've played the teacher, but it was truly a blast. We limited each class size to only eight students, so it felt intimate and relaxed and I had a chance to work one-on-one with each student. It was so inspiring to see confidence build and see each person master different piping techniques. We covered some basics, cake assembly, and practiced some of my favorite piping techniques, including rosettes, scallops, and ruffles. I can't wait to see what they go on to create!

Please let me know if you would be interested in taking a class in the future! We are building an information list and when we announce future dates will be sure to email those who have expressed interest first.
